Mini career fair

The Career Development Services held the Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) and Strathmore Institute of Mathematical Sciences (SIMS) mini career fair on Friday, 11th October 2019. The aim of the mini career fair was to provide networking opportunities for the FIT & SIMS students as they map out their careers, and meet potential employers.

A total of 13 companies were in attendance. These included CellulantCroweDalberg AdvisorsFintech KenyaGrant ThorntonICEA LionJumiaKantarLani LearningMcKinsey & CompanyMicrosoftMoringa School and Protec.

The 3rd and 4th Year students from SIMS were able to participate in a Live Case Session with representatives from Dalberg. During the session, the students were given a case study simulation to tackle in groups after which they received feedback on their presentation. Through this, they were able to gather a few tips on how to handle case study presentations which are part of the interview process in most consulting firms. The event also provided a chance for third year students to identify internship opportunities that they can explore during their Industrial Based Attachment.

“I visited the Moringa School, Microsoft, Grant Thornton and Crowe stands. I got useful information on internships and entry level jobs. It was interesting to know what employers look out for during interviews and the application process. I also got to learn more about professional development courses in IT (costs, pre-requisites and learning modules). It was an informative and interesting day despite the rain.” said Martina Mudambo, a fourth year student studying Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications.

Career fairs are a good way for students to build networks, interact with company representatives, learn more about their industry and corporate culture and find out different internship and career opportunities.
